Jonah O.

Private tutor in Manchester, United Kingdom

Education

Currently in my 1st year of a MEng Chemical Engineering degree at the University of Manchester. Recently transferred from studying for 2 years at Johns Hopkins University in America, where I studied Neuroscience & Physics.

Experience

I have worked as a tutor for the past 2 years both with tutoring companies and privately. (LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/jonahogbuneke) I am in the process of setting up tutoring classes for this summer. Up to 4-hour long sessions for £60 (£15 p/h) I am willing to travel up to an hour away but will include an additional £10 fee for doing so. A Levels: Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, Maths SAT I: 1950/2100 SAT II: Chemistry - 740/800; Biology - 780/800 "You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself." - Galileo Galilei My initial desire to become a tutor came from my passion for science and maths and my ability to thrive in any opportunity where I can share this and develop it further. I believe tutoring is the perfect opportunity for this because it forces me - as the tutor - to look at the information from different perspectives so I can make it more accessible to someone who doesn't look at things exactly like I do. And it offers me the chance to be present for that truly satisfying eureka moment. Where one overcomes a difficult challenge in science and knows they have reached a much deeper level of understanding with it. I've found very few things that compare to it and it's the one sure-fire sign that the knowledge has gotten across to the student. While at Johns Hopkins University, I was the Hopkins Rugby Clinic and Tutoring Chair. We worked in conjunction with the group Play It Forward to reach out to local elementary schools and to introduce the sport of Rugby to the children there and to support the students academically. I have also been a part of a Paired Reading Programme that took place at elementary schools in Coventry. I would be paired up with a student, and act as their mentor would help them develop their skills and confidence.

Hobbies

I love charity fundraising, reading, freestyle hip-hop/street dancing, cooking (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/manchester_student_kitchen/) art and youtube .... in that order. I've also played rugby union for the past 10 years. In that time, I've played a lot of different positions but always seem to find myself ending up back at tight head prop. Although truth-be-told I enjoy playing it more than I enjoy watching it. I'm currently in the early stages of preparing to do a tough mudder event :)
